Orangutan Foundation International
Orangutan Foundation International (OFI), established in 1986 by Dr. Birut Mary Galdikas, is dedicated to the conservation and protection of orangutans and their rainforest habitat in Borneo. The organization focuses on the rescue, rehabilitation, and repatriation of ex-captive orangutans while engaging in habitat protection, acquisition, restoration, and outreach education programs.
Through collaboration with the Indonesian government and local communities, OFI has successfully protected 1.5 million acres of rainforest and provided care for hundreds of orphaned orangutans. Their initiatives raise awareness about the challenges facing orangutans and contribute significantly to conservation efforts in the region.
