Ocean Pacific Church

History

According to individual accounts, the church had its beginnings in the latter part of 1951. The founding pastor was Reverend Gladys Wood. She and her husband, Elvis, were Sunday School teachers in the Grover City Assembly of God. Known as the Baywood Park Assembly of God, they conducted their first services in a rented building on the corner of 10th and Santa Ynez Streets. The church met there until a tent was purchased and erected on the location of the now existing church parsonage. For nearly two years the church gathered under the tent for worship and evangelistic services. On March 19, 1957 the church purchased two lots on 11th street. Work was underway to construct a permanent structure. Baywood Park Assembly of God was the second church building to be built in the community.
