Founded in 2003, the Office-based Buprenorphine Induction Clinic (OBIC) plays a central role in Community Behavioral Health Services by initiating buprenorphine treatment for opiate replacement therapy (ORT), stabilizing patients, and then transitioning them to ongoing buprenorphine care integrated with community-based primary care or mental health care. OBIC prepares patients for long-term treatment that is integrated with other aspects of health care. Patients are adults diagnosed with Opioid Use Disorder. They are largely indigent of financial means, and many are homeless or marginally housed. As the first buprenorphine induction clinic in the country, OBIC has initiated treatment for well over 1400 patients. All patients receive culturally-, linguistically, and age-appropriate care based on best-practice principles. Emphasis is placed on eliminating the stigma associated with substance use and other behavioral health problems
