The Bethlehem Priory of St. Joseph, founded in 1997 by the Norbertine Canons of St. Michael's Abbey, is the first community of Norbertine Canonesses in the United States, located in a serene valley of the Tehachapi Mountains. This Roman Catholic cloistered community is devoted to the solemn celebration of the Church's Sacred Liturgy, following the traditions of the Praemonstratensian rite with an emphasis on Latin and Gregorian chant.
Living in accordance with the Rule of St. Augustine, the Canonesses embrace a life of liturgical prayer, contemplation, and community work, immersed in silence, study, and penance. Committed to continuing the 900-year-old canonical tradition established by St. Norbert, the community thrives amidst the natural beauty of their surroundings, fostering spiritual growth and devotion.
