STAND! Against Domestic Violence provides essential domestic violence services to the residents of Contra Costa County, Calif. Formerly Battered Women s Alternatives, STAND! began in 1977 as a group of concerned residents dedicated to serving battered women and their children. The organization evolved to provide comprehensive services to halt, heal and prevent abuse. STAND! Against Domestic Violence has more than 60 staff and 150-plus volunteers who operate its various programs. As the only comprehensive domestic violence prevention agency in Contra Costa County, STAND! assists more than 10,000 clients annually by providing comprehensive prevention, intervention and treatment services to end the cycle of violence, including emergency shelter, 24-hour crisis line, legal support, transitional housing programs, clinical counseling, support groups, domestic violence treatment program for people who abuse, youth education and prevention programs, community education/speakers bureau, and volunteer training.
