Mulford Gardens Clubhouses and Park

History

The Mulford Gardens Improvement Association, MGIA, was given a one acre park and clubhouse by Col.Mulford back in 1940. Col. Mulford made his money moving food grown in Mulford Gardens to San Francisco on a fleet of ships that would cruise across the bay. He also had oyster beds as is evidenced by the many oyster shells found around the property to this day. The association has held regular monthly meetings where there was a focus on keeping the City of San Leandro's zoning board from allowing unregulated building in the community. The association has never required membership and the dues have been only $10 year per family. The City of San Leandro for 20-25 years leased the park for $1 per year to meet a green space mandate. When the Shoreline and Oyster Bay Parks were created, they no longer needed Mulford Gardens Park so it was turned back to MGIA who has relied on a handful of volunteers to keep the grounds and clubhouse available to rent to organizations and individuals

Specialties

We are a non-profit completely volunteer community based organization that provides many free services and events. We offer scholarships to graduating Mulford Gardens high school seniors. We have a playground for families who haven't other resources for their kids. We offer free outdoor movies and free popcorn. On Halloween the entire neighborhood comes to our free
