Must see/do at the Los Angeles Central Library
The Los Angeles Central Library building has been designated a State Historic Cultural Monument and it is part of the National Register of Historic Places. Therefore, pay attention to its architecture, which is considered an early example of Art Deco and 1920s design.

When you reach the circular room known as the Rotunda, tilt your head up to appreciate the art work that was painted directly on the ceiling's concrete surfaces by local artist Julian Garnsey. Enjoy also the mural by Dean Cornwell that is placed around the Rotunda's upper walls.

Other paintings and sculptures can be found throughout the library. You can ensure to admire them all by taking a free, one hour, walking tour, which is offered daily. Click here for hours and more details.

Other places to visit near the Los Angeles Central Library
Immediately outside the library are the Maguire Gardens. This is a nice area to rest, take pictures, read, or eat a snack. A couple of water fountains and sculptures round up this tranquil area.

Insider tip for visitors to the Los Angeles Central Library
After your visit to the library, you can enjoy a great view of downtown L.A. from the Westin Bonaventure Hotel. Cross the street from the library and find your way to the hotel's 34th floor. The Bona Vista Lounge is a revolving venue that will present you with an impressive panorama of the City. Drinks and appetizers at the Bona Vista Lounge are not cheap, but neither are they terribly expensive, and the view will be memorable.
