Established in 2006, La Puente is the first of two Lajamaya Salvadorean Restaurant locations. Ruth is and continues to be the original owner. She was born in El Salvador and came to the US in the 80s. Her mother owned a restaurant and taught Ruth to cook as a child. Ruth was an accountant for 12 years for a supermarket but dreamed of having her own business venture someday. Her first job was working quality control for the health department and oversaw mass food production for schools and hospitals which gave her great insight on food production in the United States. With the help of her husband, she opened Lajamaya Salvadorean and offered all the traditional recipes her mother made when she was growing up. Now, the business remains successful and still in the family as Ruth now owns the two locations in partnership with her husband and their two sons.
