Keller Peak Ski Hut, built by the Ski Mountaineers in 1938, is a rustic retreat managed for the enjoyment of Sierra Club members by the dedicated volunteers of the Keller Hut Committee. Nestled at an elevation of 6,800 feet amid the rocky, forested beauty of the San Bernardino Mountains, this cozy hut offers a unique mountain experience between Running Springs and Big Bear Lake. Conveniently situated across from the Snow Valley Ski Area, this location promises an adventure-filled getaway.
Accommodating up to 30 overnight guests, the hut features two dormitory lofts, each with 10 beds, and two living/dining rooms equipped with a fully stocked kitchen for preparing meals. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own food, sleeping bags, and personal items while contributing firewood during colder months for the pot-belly stove and fireplace. Activities such as hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and fishing are just a few of the outdoor pursuits awaiting guests.
Open to both Sierra Club members and non-members, the Keller Peak Ski Hut invites guests to bask in the tranquility of nature while sharing in the collective responsibility of maintaining this historic site. With a focus on fostering community engagement through work parties and volunteer efforts, visitors are encouraged to participate in preserving the 85+ year legacy of the hut, ensuring its continued operation for generations to come.
