Kathryn A. Gold, MD, is a board -certified medical oncologist who specializes in diagnosing and treating cancers of the lung, head and neck. She uses numerous forms of therapy such as chemotherapy, biological therapy and targeted therapy to offer the best possible treatment options for her patients. As an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Gold instructs medical students, residents and fellows and UC San Diego School of Medicine. Her clinical and translational research interests include lung and head and neck cancer, with a focus on targeted therapies and immunotherapies. She has presented her work at both national and international medical conferences. Dr. Gold has coauthored many articles, and her research has appeared in The Lancet Oncology , the Journal of the National Cancer Institute , and The New England Journal of Medicine , among others. Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Gold was an assistant professor in the Department of Thoracic Head and Neck Medical Oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Gold completed a fellowship in medical oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she was selected for her clinical and leadership abilities to serve as chief fellow. She completed a residency in internal medicine at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr. Gold earned her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. She is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association of Cancer Research and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer. Outside of work, Dr. Gold enjoys exploring San Diego with her husband and young son. She also enjoys running, hiking and traveling. Dr. Hattangadi -Gluth is chief of the Central Nervous System Tumor Service and a co -leader of the Central Nervous System Disease Team at Moores Cancer Center. An associate professor at UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Hattangadi -Gluth is the associate director of the Center for Precision Radiation Medicine. She is actively involved in research to improve the efficacy and safety of radiation therapy for brain tumors. Specifically, her research lab focuses on developing novel imaging tools to improve radiation oncology treatments and using functional and quantitative MRI to measure response to radiation in cancer patients. Dr. Hattangadi -Gluth completed residency training in radiation oncology and earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School. She also completed research training in breast oncology and imaging at UC San Francisco as a Doris Duke research fellow. She was also a Fulbright scholar.
