History

Declared an LA cultural-historic landmark in 1981, The Hayworth building has been a creative hub for close to a century. It opened as The Masque Theater in 1926, and became home to one of the first tiki bars (The Vagabond's House), and in the 1980's and 90's it was LA's premiere revival movie house. With it's spacious lobby with bar, performer greenrooms backstage, and gorgeous 200 seat theater, The Hayworth is a gem that deserves this rebirth. After years booking A-list talent at The Hollywood Improv, visionary comedy producer Jamie Flam has set his sights on the historical Hayworth Theatre in the emerging Westlake/MacArthur Park neighborhood. The history extends next door, as it is adjacent to La Fonda de Los Camperos, the first mariachi restaurant in the world. The theater will open with a grand opening slated for March and preseason shows happening NOW! . This soft opening will afford the theater an opportunity to incorporate preliminary feedback from performers and audiences.

Specialties

The Hayworth Theatre is conveniently located in Los Angeles' Historic Wilshire District. Formerly a movie theater and dance studio, The Hayworth has been transformed into Los Angeles' hottest and most vibrant comedy & variety theatre. The Hayworth Theatre designated in 1983 as Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument 268, is representative of the Spanish Colonial Revival style, also called the ornate Churriqueresque style. The building was designed in 1926 by noted architect Stiles O. Clements, a major Los Angeles figure, who designed about 100 buildings along Wilshire Blvd.

The Theater: The theater is a little outdated. Very small theater but intimate. Every seat is a good seat. The deco & seats are quite old. Not very impressive especially in this entertainment city...
