Jose Loredo, MD, MPH, is a sleep medicine doctor who evaluates and treats individuals with sleep related disorders such as narcolepsy, insomnia, and sleep apnea. He cares for patients at UC San Diego Health's Sleep Medicine Center https health.ucsd.edu specialties sleep Pages default.aspx , where he provides a full spectrum of therapeutic and diagnostic services. Dr. Loredo is actively involved in clinical research and has been featured in several publications for his research on improving sleep quality in people with obstructive sleep apnea OSA . He is currently leading an NIH -funded epidemiological study of sleep -health in Hispanics in San Diego county. He is also co -investigator in the largest NIH -sponsored research project for the Hispanic community Study of Latinos SOL , which studies the health of 16,000 Hispanics across the U.S. Other research projects in which Dr. Loredo is involved include the investigation of the role of peripheral chemoreceptors in the development of hypertension in patients with obstructive sleep apnea OSA , and the association of sleep apnea with asthma. Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Loredo practiced general medicine for four years in rural Alabama. Dr. Loredo is an instructor in critical care, pulmonary and sleep medicine. He is currently teaching medical students, internal medicine residents and pulmonary fellows at the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the San Diego VA Hospital, UC San Diego Sleep Medicine Center, and the San Diego VA Pulmonary Sleep Disorders Clinic. Dr. Loredo completed his fellowship at UC San Diego School of Medicine, and earned his medical degree from Loma Linda University, School of Medicine. He holds a Master of Public Health in epidemiology at San Diego State University Graduate School of Public Health. He is board certified in internal medicine.
