Alameda, CA 94501

Jackson Park, recently renamed Chochenyo Park, stands as a symbol of anti-racism and public education, reflecting the community's commitment to eliminating white supremacist monuments in Alameda's public spaces. This transformation was achieved through community organization and advocacy, resulting in the unanimous decision by the Alameda City Council to honor the Lisjan and Ohlone people.

The park renaming effort highlights the need for public spaces that represent inclusion, diversity, and social justice. The movement is driven by a demand for educational signage to explain the significance of the name change and to celebrate the history of the community it now represents.
