The Isla Vista Food Cooperative is a member-owned natural foods store. The cooperative began as an experiment in the early 1970s when a small group of local people joined together to take control of food prices and to offer foods that local stores were unwilling to provide. It features a selection of locally grown organic produce and an assortment of bulk foods. The cooperative provides environmentally friendly cleaning products and specialty foods, such as raw foods, vitamins, supplements, herbs, and beer and wines. It also helps customers maintain diets that are free from wheat, dairy, meat, gluten and sugar. The Isla Vista Food Cooperative specializes in vegetarian, vegan, kosher and organic products. In addition, it handles special orders for natural foods, vitamins, juices and specialty items. The Isla Vista Food Cooperative is located in Isla Vista, Calif.
