Department of Developmental Services is the agency through which the State of California provides services and supports to children and adults with developmental disabilities. Located in Sacramento, Calif., it offers services to people suffering from mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism. The department provides these services through state-operated developmental centers and contracts with more than 20 nonprofit agencies called regional centers. The developmental centers offer services that include training, care, treatment and supervision in a structured health facility setting on a 24-hour basis. Additionally, the regional centers provides services that include assessment and diagnosis , counseling , lifelong individualized planning and service coordination, early intervention services for at risk infants and their families, training and educational opportunities for individuals and families, and community education about developmental disabilities. The Department of Developmental Services is one of 13 departments and one board that comprise the California Health and Human Services Agency.

The California Health and Human Services Agency offers child support, foster care, employment-related, medical assistance and individual protection services. Located in Sacramento, Calif., the agency provides obesity and alcohol and drug abuse prevention programs. It also offers the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which includes winter heating, energy crisis management and home repair assistance services. The California Health and Human Services Agency provides transitional housing, legal advocacy, counseling and support services. In addition, the agency offers the Food Stamp Program, which includes financial assistance services for low-income individuals and families to purchase food items. The California Health and Human Services Agency operates through social services, mental and public health, rehabilitation and aging departments.

The Office of Human Resources is a division that operates under the government of the state of California. The unit provides consulting services to department managers and supervisors related to job duties, pay matters and hiring processes. It operates through selection, consumer resources, and training and performance enhancement units. The Office of Human Resources also provides job analysis, employee selection and support services. In addition, the unit establishes, revises and abolishes departmental classifications. It has a classification and pay unit that determines position classification and compensation levels. The Office of Human Resources is a part of the Department of General Services, which offers real estate management and design services.
