Independent Berkeley Student
The Daily Californian is an independent, student-run newspaper published by the Independent Berkeley Students Publishing Company, Inc. Established in 1871, it covers both the UC Berkeley campus and the city of Berkeley, making it one of the oldest newspapers on the West Coast and one of the oldest college newspapers in the country.
Run entirely by current or recently-graduated UC Berkeley students, The Daily Californian supports itself through advertising revenue and funding from the Save the Daily Cal Initiative. It earned its independence in 1971 and continues to provide comprehensive and high-quality coverage of UC Berkeley, the city of Berkeley, and the entire UC system, receiving numerous awards for its journalistic excellence.
