Hyung Won Choi, MD

Dr. Sonia Lee is a board-certified UCI Health radiologist who specializes in abdominal imaging and ultrasound, nuclear medicine and musculoskeletal imaging. Her clinical interests include cancer imaging with emphasis on gastrointestinal neoplasms and rectal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). She also has expertise in hepatobiliary, pancreas and gynecologic imaging, as well as scans for inflammatory bowel disease and other intestinal conditions. She earned her medical degree at the Catholic University of Korea College of Medicine in Seoul. She completed a residency in radiology with the Aultman/Mercy/NEOMED program at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio, followed by fellowship training in abdominal imaging, ultrasound, nuclear medicine and musculoskeletal radiology at UC San Francisco Medical Center. Lee has published several peer-reviewed research papers in her field and presented her work at national and international conferences

Dr. Matthew D. Whealon is a board-certified UCI Health surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive and robot-assisted colorectal surgery. A fellowship-trained colorectal surgeon, Whealon is an expert in the minimally invasive treatment of colon, rectal and anal cancers, colon and rectal polyps, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, rectal prolapse and sphincter salvage. He also treats anorectal disorders, including pilonidal cysts and anal fissures, fistulas and hemorrhoids. He earned his medical degree at the UCI School of Medicine, followed by a residency in general surgery at UCI Medical Center. where he served as chief resident and completed a research fellowship in surgery. Next, he completed a fellowship in colorectal surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Medicine Health System in Philadelphia. Whealon is the author or co-author of many research papers published in major journals, including Surgical Oncology, Surgical Endoscopy, The American Surgeon and Clinics in Colon and Rectal Surgery.
