Hunter's Point
Sierra Azul Preserve, managed by Midpen, spans over 19,000 acres in the Santa Cruz Mountains, showcasing a diverse landscape that includes serpentine grasslands, steep chaparral, and dense oak forests. It features 26 miles of multiuse trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, offering breathtaking views and habitats for various wildlife, including mountain lions and deer.
Significant for its cultural history, the preserve was a site of Native American traditions and later served as the location for an Air Force radar station during the Cold War. Currently, it includes public access areas such as Kennedy-Limekiln and Mount Umunhum, which was restored and opened to the public in 2017 after extensive cleanup efforts.
