Homestead Apothecary, originally founded by Nicholas Weinstein in a renovated barn in Western Massachusetts, found a new home in Oakland, California, in 2013. With a successful retail storefront in Temescal Alley and a second location in the Laurel District, the business quickly became a staple in the community.

In 2024, after seven years of service, Nic and his partner Ashley Neese decided to close Homestead Apothecary to focus on their family and philanthropic efforts, including fostering children and animal rescue. They are currently building a personal retreat center and herbal medicine farm at Granite Mountain in Mariposa, California, near Yosemite National Park.
