From a young age, Dr. Barlow was continually exposed to medicine. Whether it was learning a lesson in elementary school, talking with his uncle who served as a physician or meeting with his high school mentors, Dr. Barlow has always found the field fascinating and a career that was ideal for his interests. As a family medicine physician, Dr. Barlow enjoys treating patients of all ages and helping them through the many stages of life. He finds that he is constantly learning and that allows him to always be informed and provide cutting-edge health care. When it comes to patient care, Dr. Barlow is focused on helping his patients and building relationships. He believes in partnering with his patients to yield the best outcomes and it is through this collaboration that he is afforded an opportunity to learn about his patients and determine how to best support them. As he states, “I aim to be a resource to my patients and provide education. This typically results in a successful doctor-patient relationship that allows us to reach the patient’s goals.” Dr. Barlow attended University of South Carolina School of Medicine and completed his residency at HCA Healthcare Riverside. Fluent in Korean, he also participated in missionary work in Korea for two years. During his free time away from the office, Dr. Barlow enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter as well as being active outdoors. His favorite sports include surfing, running, rock climbing and basketball.

Being a mother of three young boys has instilled in Dr. Birkhauser a strong desire to keep children as healthy as possible by emphasizing preventive medicine.“Sick kids break my heart, so my goal is to work as a team with parents to get children healthy and keep them that way,” says Dr. Birkhauser, who is excited to be a part of Hoag Medical Group. She hopes to become an educational resource for parents on a wide variety of medical and childrearing topics. “I treat my patients as I would want my own children to be treated,” she says.Prior to joining Hoag Medical Group, Dr. Birkhauser was the Chief Resident of Pediatrics at UCI Medical Center. She earned her medical degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, IL. Her other work experience includes editing and writing on a variety medical topics for online and printed publications.When she’s not taking care of her young sons and patients, Dr. Birkhauser enjoys cooking, mystery novels, and classic rock music.
