History

Groceries for Seniors's founder, John Meehan, was born into poverty and an abusive family situation. He migrated to San Francisco during the 1960's and found himself in trouble with the law and was jailed for petty theft. While in prison, he had an awakening and promised he would do something productive with his life. In 1983 John founded the Haigh Ashbury Soup Kitchen and in 1999 the organization morphed into Groceries for Seniors
