Fort Bragg, CA 95437

Glass Beach in Fort Bragg, California is a must-see destination for nature enthusiasts and beach lovers. Located on the Mendocino Coast, this unique beach is known for its high concentration of sea glass, which has been rounded and polished by the rolling waves over time. The beach was created as a result of the Great Quake of 1906, when the town's debris was dumped into the ocean, and Mother Nature has since transformed it into a treasure trove of sparkling glass. Visitors can also explore the fascinating tide pools and observe the diverse marine life that thrives in this ever-changing environment.

Sea glass, also known as beach glass, is formed through the weathering and tumbling of glass in saltwater, giving it a frosted appearance and soft texture. Glass Beach offers a wide range of colors, with green, brown, and clear white being the most common due to the disposal of glass bottles in these shades. However, rare finds such as cobalt blue and red glass, known as the sapphires and rubies of the beach, can also be discovered. With its captivating history and natural beauty, Glass Beach is a true gem along the California coastline.
