San Diego Mentors

HistoryIn 1998, founder James Giantis launched Families In Training, a mentoring program designed specifically for children and families struggling with severe behavioral challenges. One of the main points of emphasis was helping families to develop the proper balance of independent and interdependent functioning in the home, school and community. Over time parent and family coaching were added into the program and thousands of youth and families benefited. Each year the coaching and mentoring system and process became more and more refined and led to the development of a series of curriculums customized for youth, parents, families and organizational personnel. The success of this system of coaching, mentoring and training led to the evolution of three separate programs, including: Organizations In Training, a non-profit program for youth facing severe adversity including homelessness; and now, San Diego Mentors Youth Leadership Camps.SpecialtiesSince 1998, San Diego Mentors has provided advanced mentoring to nearly ten thousand youth with a variety of challenges within their homes, schools and communities. At some point in everyone's life, they will need a mentor or coach to help them refine their skills, to strengthen weaknesses, accept limitations and utilize their existing strengths. Our team of mentors have been selected based on their character, competence and ability to relate to a variety of youth and families in the San Diego community. We have developed an innovative and comprehensive mentoring process and leadership training program to help recipients learn to become more calm and assertive in thought, emotion, desire and action. Through the exploration of past experiences, present challenges and a thorough and effective plan for future events each of the youth receive a customized training regimen to learn, practice, refine and master the most valuable skills necessary to successfully navigate life's challenges.
