Gilbert Huang, DPM

Gilbert Huang, DPM, is a board-certified podiatrist and wound care specialist at West America Foot and Ankle in San Mateo, California. Dr. Huang is fluent in Mandarin and enjoys helping patients of all ages with their foot and ankle conditions, including individuals who need geriatric foot care or specialized diabetic wound care.Dr. Huang is a Californian native with Taiwanese heritage. He was raised in Fremont, California, and earned his bachelors degree from the University of California San Diego. During his undergraduate years, Dr. Huang was a chess instructor for elementary students and volunteered at Alvarado Hospital Medical Center.Starting his medical journey, Dr. Huang began his career as a lab research intern at the Scripps Research Center and the MIND Institute for imaging research and microscopy. Passionate about gaining experience, he attended a mission trip through a Chinese Evangelical Church outreach program and provided medical support to people in Rancho Agua Viva, Mexico.He received a merit scholarship to pursue his doctorate in podiatric medicine at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. For his postgraduate training, he then took up a three-year podiatric surgery residency program at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, where he received extensive training in foot and ankle reconstruction and limb salvage and assisted in COVID-19 response efforts as a co-chief resident.Dr. Huang learned many different treatment methods during his rotations around hospitals and clinics on the East Coast and Midwest. With his broad medical knowledge, good dexterity, and a caring heart, Dr. Huang will try his best to accommodate patients foot and ankle ailments at West America Foot and Ankle.When hes not helping patients, Dr. Huang enjoys spending time with loved ones and his two year-old cockatiel, participating in volleyball matches, playing video games, and building furniture.
