Newport Beach, CA 92660
The original GARYS made its 1966 debut in a converted four-bedroom house located in Brentwood, Calif. Started by Gary Wasserman, the store sold upscale men's clothing to the area's elite clientele. Dick Braeger, a sales representative for the shoe manufacturer E. E. Taylor & Company, joined Wasserman as a partner in 1969. This pairing brought customers a variety of shoes, such as Taylor Mades, British Walkers and Cole Haan. Braeger brought the company to the forefront of fashion in the United States by launching such coveted lines as Brioni, Canali, Zanella, Ermenegildo Zegna and Hugo Boss. His stores have also helped pioneer some of the most well-known casual wear lines in the business, such as Kahala and Tommy Bahama. The company has evolved to a group of more than 10 stores that includes GARYS, GARYS Cole Haan, Garys Island, Garys Per Donna, GARYS Studio and Garys Rack. GARYS maintains a location in Newport Beach, Calif.
