The Friends of the La Mesa Library is a nonprofit organization established in February 1969, dedicated to promoting, preserving, and supporting library services and patron needs within the La Mesa community. This group of local advocates believes that a modern and effective library is essential for the enrichment of their community.

Primarily funded through the sale of used books at their bookstore located inside the library, the Friends rely on donations of gently used books and the support of volunteers to operate. Members enjoy a discount in the bookstore and are encouraged to participate in various initiatives to enhance library services.
