Flame Of Liberty Veterans Memorial

Artist Statement by Frank Kocian Morris The Flame of Liberty Memorial is inspired by three elements: The Statue of Liberty, an Eternal Flame and a Soldier’s Cross. The Memorial blends these significant symbols that are deeply woven into American culture and national identity. More than any other American symbol, it is the Statue of Liberty that best represents the national ideal of freedom and liberty in our country. Liberty's torch was the original inspiration for the flame sculpture at this Memorial. The Eternal Flame has been used throughout history to honor America's heroes and keep their memory alive by a flame that continues to burn continuously, day & night. The image of a flame or torch is one of the most universally understood symbols that represents honor and remembrance. A sculpture of a “Soldier’s Cross” sits quietly inside the flame and is the emotional center of the Memorial, reminding viewers of the great sacrifice that has occurred and that freedom is not free.
