Mary Ryan and her daughter Sophia Ryan opened Montclair's only green Salon out of a matter of necessity. Mary, a hairstylist of 25 years, had developed ammonia toxicity; was always sick and had nosebleeds from using regular hair color. She feared that she may have to switch careers and did not want her daughter following in her footsteps. Before opening, mother-daughter combo did months of research to find a lasting color line that did not contain the toxic chemicals; such as ammonia, PPD, and resorcinol; all of which are highly carcinogenic and extremely dangerous to inhale and put on your scalp. Clients are very happy with the switch.

Our mission at Eco Chique is to promote wellness for our clients and our environment. We do that by offering our clients a non-toxic alternative in hair coloring and the safest in eco-friendly products. We carry the purest shampoos and conditioners made by Innersense Organics, these products are void of parabens and sulfates. At Eco Chique, clients can rest assured that they will be offered only the finest in haircutting, styling, and coloring services. Everyday our clients' hair clippings are swept up off our floors and sent away to Matter of Trust, an organization which weaves these hair fibers into oil spill hair mats and then uses them to mop up the emergency oils spills in the San Francisco Bay. We donate our longer ponytails to Locks of Love and the Susan J. Komen Breast Cancer Society. Locks of Love is a non-profit organization which makes wigs for financially disadvantaged children, suffering from hair loss due to medical conditions.
