Operational for more than 100 years, Elk Grove Fire Department is a private Incident Response Service organization governed and managed by an elected board of directors. The fire department offers fire protection to more than 106-square-miles of residential and commercial properties in southern Sacramento, Elk Grove, Franklin and Laguna West, Calif. Working under the guidelines of the California Department of Insurance, it employs more than 95 professional volunteer and career firefighters. The department offers a wide variety of services, such as emergency medical services, hazardous material operations, confined space rescue, vehicle extrication, cold water and high-angle rescue. Its members participate in the California Firefighter's Certification program and First Responder - Defibrillator program. Located in Elk Grove, Calif., the department utilizes Pierce Fire Engines.
