Contra Costa County District Attorney offers prosecution services to residents of the county. Located in Martinez, Calif., the district office offers legal services in several areas, including, child abuse, domestic violence, drug offenders, high technology crimes, homicides, and elder and dependent abuse. Its felony trial team takes to jury trial all felonies in Contra Costa County that are not assigned to special units. The felonies include sexual assault or homicide, such as vehicular manslaughter, attempted murder, carjacking, robbery, residential burglary, felony assaults, auto theft, felony thefts, drug sales, possession for sale of drugs and simple possession. Additionally, the district s Juvenile Division is responsible for prosecuting most criminal matters in which the suspect is under the age of 18 years. Its duties include filing of all criminal charges, which include all felonies and misdemeanors, determining the level of the charges to be filed, responding to various motions and legal issues raised before, during and after a criminal case and obtaining orders for the proper restitution for victims of juvenile cases.
