Contemporary Club

The Contemporary Club, established in 1894, is one of the oldest women's clubs in Redlands, California, dedicated to the social and cultural improvement of its members. Originally limited to 25 members, the club expanded its membership to include all women in the Redlands area by 1896, growing to 80 members by the following year.

After moving through various venues, the club built its first clubhouse in 1904, which was later demolished in 1971. The current clubhouse, located on the A.K. Smiley Public Library campus, has been utilized by the Contemporary Club rent-free since its acquisition by the City of Redlands in 2015, allowing the organization to continue its mission of fostering education and self-expression among women.
