Cohen Double Bass Studio

History

Mr. Cohen is a Peabody and San Francisco Conservatory trained professional double bassist with 18 years of performance and teaching. Currently, I am the assistant principal bassist in the Oakland Symphony, principal bassist in the Santa Cruz Symphony and have taught performance and music theory in the Young Musician's Program at UC Berkeley. I teach all ages with a passion for producing results, key ideas and concepts to exceed your goals. I find a special joy in keeping my students engaged and interested while exploring different styles of playing as well as practice techniques to better their skills. Private lessons are a great way for students of all ages to set goals, build confidence in a new instrument, stay motivated, and learn quickly.

Specialties

Alden F. Cohen offers many styles from classical to pop music and techniques to help develop your desires and love for playing the double bass. Students range from middle school age to adults who are interested in learning the bass or improving their instrumental skills. Music theory, ear training, and sight-reading are integrated into the double bass lesson. Previous students have won auditions into the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, Oakland Youth Orchestra, Golden Gate Philharmonic and San Jose Youth Orchestra.
