Chula Vista Police Department

The Chula Vista, Calif., Police Department is comprised of four divisions: administrative services, patrol operations, investigations and fiscal operations/research. It inaugurated a $63 million headquarters building in 2004 which includes a forensics crime lab, police and fire dispatch center, conference and training rooms, a technology center, a lead-free firing range, an evidence warehouse, locker rooms, computerized report writing stations and fitness training room. It also has a 46-bed holding facility. The department includes specialized units, such as special weapons and tactics, K9, mobile field force, special investigations, crisis negotiating, narcotics enforcement and gang suppression. The traffic enforcement unit wrote more than 15,000 tickets in 2004. The Chula Vista Police Department has several volunteer programs, including reserves, senior volunteer patrol, explorers and equestrian team. The department s annual budget is nearly $40 million.
