Casa Madrona, originally built in 1885 by lumber baron William G. Barrett, is a historic Italian Villa perched above Sausalito. The property transitioned from a family residence to a guest house and later operated as the Casa Madrona Hotel, Gallagher Inn, and even served as temporary lodging for military families during World War II.
After a period of decline that welcomed the local beatnik population, the property was revitalized in 1959 by Robert Henri and Marie-Louise Deschamps, launching the exclusive Le Vivoir Restaurant. Today, under the ownership of John Mays, Casa Madrona has been restored and now operates as a luxurious hotel and spa, featuring hillside cottages and a rich history.
