Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove, California, originally known as the Crystal Cathedral, transitioned from a Protestant congregation to a Catholic church after being purchased by the Diocese of Orange for $57.5 million following the bankruptcy of Crystal Cathedral Ministries. With a focus on outreach to the poor and marginalized, as well as the arts, music, and dance, the cathedral has undergone significant renovations to better serve its community.

The final service for the Protestant congregation took place on June 30, 2013, with Reverend Robert A. Schuller delivering the benediction, marking the end of an era. Currently, Mass is celebrated at the arboretum on the 35-acre campus while alterations to the main cathedral are expected to be completed by 2015.
