History

SDSU initially housed a small, on-campus counselor training center in the department of Counseling and School Psychology, part of the College of Education. However, department leaders wanted to improve access to counseling services and establish a presence in the heart of the community it serves - City Heights and the surrounding neighborhoods. Through funding from the SDSU Research Foundation, the Center for Community Counseling & Engagement was built less than 10 minutes away from campus. CCCE has grown substantially since those early years and now provides professional training to over 75 graduate student therapists and post-graduate MFT interns each year. Affordable counseling services are provided to SDSU students and the general public year-round from Monday through Saturday.

Specialties

The Center for Community Counseling & Engagement (CCCE) provides low-cost counseling services for individuals, couples, and families, as well as several support groups for Men and Women. Counseling is provided by graduate students from San Diego State University's Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) and Licensed Professional Clinical Counseling (LPCC) programs, as well as post-graduate registered MFT Interns. Qualified professionals provide supervision to all counselors to ensure that clients needs are met. CCCE holds the view that the individual, family, and larger society are all important in the development and resolution of people's problems. Our treatment approaches address all three of these vital areas, while also promoting multicultural understanding and respect. Everyone experiences life challenges. Some challenges pass with time, with the use of personal interventions, or with the help of family and friends. Other times, challenges can persist and one might need additional assistance. We would like to be of service to you at any of these times.
