CEMEX was founded in 1906 with the opening of the Cementos Hidalgo plant in northern Mexico, the first modern cement plant in Latin America with a rotary kiln. Cementos Portland Monterrey, the cornerstone of the company, initiated operations in 1920 with 20,000 metric tons of annual production capacity. CEMEX is a global producer and marketer of cement, ready-mix products and other building materials, with operations primarily concentrated in the world's most dynamic cement markets across four continents. CEMEX combines a deep knowledge of the local markets with its global network and information technology systems to provide world-class products and services to its customers, from individual homebuilders to large industrial contractors. CEMEX has a facility located in Pleasanton, Calif., formerly RMC Pacific Materials. RMC is now part of the CEMEX network.
