Catalina Airport, also known as the Airport in the Sky, is situated in Avalon, CA. Constructed in 1941 through the leveling of adjacent peaks, the airport's single 3,000-foot-long runway was recently renovated for a smoother, safer landing experience. Pretty cool and historic little private airport. Once you fly in, you can catch the shuttle to Avalon or Two Harbors. But be sure to check out the views from the patio behind the gift shop....
