Carlos Becerra, M.D., serves as Medical Director of Cancer Research for Hoag Family Cancer Institute, and he practices as a board-certified medical oncologist focusing on gastrointestinal cancers and early phase clinical trial development and implementation. He brings years of experience and a compassionate approach when caring for his patients. Dr. Becerra works with fellow cancer experts to improve the lives of patients through strategic leadership in advancing the Institute’s clinical research program and increasing the number of cancer clinical trials available. As a cancer researcher, he is committed to being part of a team dedicated in leading cancer prevention, detection and treatment. Dr. Becerra has led teams and programs focused on cancer research and clinical trials. His accomplishments in the field have earned him respect from his colleagues and patients. He is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research and Colombian Medical Association. Dr. Becerra has co-authored numerous publications featuring a variety of cancer types in relation to genetics and treatments. Dr. Becerra completed his fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas where he became an assistant professor of internal medicine after completing his fellowship. Dr. Becerra attended medical school and completed his internship at the Universidad del Valle (Colombia), followed by his residency in internal medicine at Saint Francis Hospital in Illinois, where he was named chief resident.

He received the 2022 Genitourinary Cancers Symposium Merit Award from Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation, and received the 2022 UCI School of Medicine Outstanding Fellow/Resident Research Award for excellence in clinical/translational research. Dr. Benjamin is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). Dr. Benjamin attended Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, followed by an internal medicine internship and residency at University of California, Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. He completed his fellowship training in hematology/ oncology at University of California, Irvine Medical Center, where he also served as chief fellow. In his spare time, Dr. Benjamin enjoys running, watching sports (basketball and football) and traveling.

Chaitali Nangia, M.D., attended Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi, India followed by a residency at Rush/Resurrection Westlake Hospital in Melrose Park, Illinois. She completed her fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Josephine Ford Cancer Center at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Nangia then joined University of California Irvine as an associate professor in the Hematology/Oncology Division and associate program director of the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship program. Before joining Hoag, Dr. Nangia last spent her time as medical director at the Chan Soon Shiong Institute for Medicine where she ran several phase 1 clinical trials. Dr. Nangia is board certified in Hematology/Oncology and Internal Medicine.Dr. Nangia has a particular interest in breast cancer, as well as head and neck cancers.She has received several awards and honors throughout her career including being named Teacher of the Year for three years consecutively for the UCI Hematology/Oncology Division. Dr. Nangia has held professorships at University of California at Irvine, Michigan State University and Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Warren, Michigan among others.She has more than two decades of research experience, serving as the primary investigator on several clinical research trials. Dr. Nangia has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and abstracts and given clinical presentations throughout the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Nangia has joined Hoag to initiate a cellular therapy program, bringing solid tumor NK cell therapy to Orange County patients.She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) and the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPIO).
