Capoeira Yokayo

Capoeira Yokayo is a small school in Ukiah, California, dedicated to the practice of Capoeira, a unique combination of dance, fight, and game. Led by Contramestre Maluco and Professor Carranca, the devoted students engage in stretching, strength training, aerobic workouts, music, singing, and the training and playing of Capoeira.

Originating in Salvador Bahia, Brazil, Capoeira has its roots in the diverse African traditions and rituals brought by enslaved individuals forcibly relocated to Brazil. Initially illegal, it became popular after its legalization in the 1930s, spreading across the globe as one of the few martial arts practiced to music.
