California Conservation Corps
The California Conservation Corps (CCC) Ukiah Center, located in southern Mendocino County, is a residential facility situated on 6.7 acres of land. With a history dating back to the 1980s, the center offers a range of benefits to its 80 Corpsmembers, including a monthly stipend, opportunities for excess pay during fire season, health insurance, and the chance to earn up to $8,000 in scholarships per year. Corpsmembers at the Ukiah Center engage in various natural resource projects, such as trail construction, salmon habitat restoration, stream-bank enhancement, and fire crew partnerships with CAL FIRE.
In 2024, the CCC Ukiah Center will transition to become the Mendocino Center in Willits. The center fosters a sense of community through weekly meetings conducted by the Corpsmember Advisory Board (CAB), which consists of community-elected Corpsmembers. In addition to their work and classes, residents have the freedom to engage in recreational activities, such as hiking, playing sports, and attending local music festivals. The center also encourages volunteerism, with Corpsmembers participating in weekend events and organizations to be eligible for CCC scholarships.
