History
in 1992 Brigitte Curt and Jim Smyth created a non profit organization the California Academy of Painters. Jim had already been teaching classes for 20 years, Brigitte started teaching that year, focusing mostly on a Plein Air Landscape program. Over the years Brigitte and Jim have taught at the Pacific Art League, the Palo Alto Art center and for the California Academy of Painters, starting a program abroad in 1996. Since 1998 it has been located in the lavender fields of Provence and it is a 2 week intensive painting and sketching program for all levels. To this day C.A.P. collaborates with a number of organizations to promote the work of its members, particularly on the web, and maintains a regular schedule of art classes.
