The Historical Society and Museum of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, established in 2001 by a group of retired employees, is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of the department. With a mission to promote pride and loyalty among its employees, the organization collects and exhibits material evidence related to its service and traditions for the benefit of both employees and the public.
Since opening its first display room in 2005 at the San Bernardino Cal Fire Headquarters, the museum has expanded its collection to include a fleet of seven fully restored vintage fire engines. Operated by an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, the museum relies on donations to sustain its operations and maintain its commitment to safeguarding California's firefighting heritage.
