Butterfly Farms
History
We established Butterfly Farms in 2013 because of our concern with the decline of native butterflies and other native pollinators. We are a California nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to education, conservation and research of our important pollinators. We study the host and nectar plant relationships of pollinators using the Monarch Butterfly as our model.
Specialties
We established Butterfly Farms in 2013 because of our concern with the decline of native butterflies and other native pollinators. We are a California nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to education, conservation and research of our important pollinators. We study the host and nectar plant relationships of pollinators using the Monarch Butterfly as our model. In our 3000 square foot Vivarium (butterfly free flight house) we study interactions of native butterflies in a unique ecosystem. In our classroom we study metamorphosis and teach conservation. In our nursery we grow and study dozens of plants important to the biology of our pollinators. In our laboratory we raise native butterflies. We hold special events in our event center. We offer 1-hour guided educational tours for schools, pre-schools, home-schools and other organizations. We do field work monitoring, tagging and tracking Monarch Butterflies to their overwintering sites.
