History

Saraijah Barnes founded Brown Sugar & Coffee in 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic. Acknowledging those within black and brown communities being heavily impacted at an exponential rate, she obtained her certification in Life coaching with the focus of self-esteem and personal-development for people aged 16-26 years old. Understanding the psycho-social impact on development in this age group, she aimed to provide support by coaching those struggling with isolation, low-self-esteem, stagnation, and peer-to-peer conflict, but wanted more for themselves. She then gained certification through Dignity Health to teach for the National Council of Behavioral Health and QPR Institute: Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid as well as QPR Suicide Prevention. All three trainings focus on suicide prevention, substance use and mental health challenges following a 3-5 step Action Plan used to assist those in crisis and non-crisis situations.

Brown Sugar and Coffee LLC. advocates for the mental health and socio-economical wellbeing of adolescence and adults by providing Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings, Adult Mental Health First Aid Trainings and QPR suicide prevention trainings.
