History
Upon completion of my doctorate in African American literature in May of 2006, I was burned out. I had taught as an adjunct professor since 1993. The toll terminated my academic career. By November of 2006 I was enrolled in a FastTrac New Venture class at my local Women's Business Development Center. The African American female professional who taught our class was incredible. After ten weeks with her, I knew for sure that I could run a business. My main problem, as is often the case with start-ups, was funding. Fortunately, the outcome of four years of under-employment then two years of homelessness has been receipt, at long last, of Social Security Disability and a back payment that allowed me to accomplish critical activities for my company. I am now ready to join the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce and step into the world of business properly. Watch out, Long Beach; the end of homelessness in our fair city is nigh.
