The Berkeley Fire Department, governed by the City of Berkeley in California, was established in 1904. The department provides 24-hour emergency response and fire suppression services. It responds to various medical emergencies, hazardous materials events and other life-threatening situations. The Berkeley Fire Department also offers several types of on-going training and public education programs. In addition, the department s office of emergency services implements programs that focus on disaster preparedness and response activities. It also designs and develops various fire suppression strategies. The Berkeley Fire Department responds to more than 11,000 emergency calls annually. The department additionally owns and manages an emergency operations center and over five fire stations. It maintains a fleet of engines, trucks and ambulances.
