Bay Area Urban Areas Security
The Bay Area Urban Areas Security Initiative (BAUASI) enhances the collective capacity of the region to prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from terrorist incidents and catastrophic events. Established in collaboration with local, state, and federal stakeholders, the initiative utilizes federal homeland security grant funds to analyze regional risks and address capability gaps, fostering a secure and resilient Bay Area.
Since its formation in 2006, BAUASI has expanded to encompass twelve counties and over 100 incorporated cities, serving a combined population of more than 8.2 million residents. The initiative is directed by an eleven-member Approval Authority responsible for policy direction and funding decisions, ensuring comprehensive emergency response and management throughout the region.
