Founded in 1976, Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program is one of the leading providers and promoters of accessible sports and recreation opportunities for physically handicapped children and adults. It improves the health, independence and social integration through sports, fitness and recreation programs. Located in Berkeley, Calif., the program provides advocacy, trainings, referrals and consultation services, as well as conducts disability awareness trainings and adaptive sports exhibitions for a variety of community agencies. The organization helps physical therapists, rehabilitation hospitals, parks and recreation departments. Some of the programs conducted by Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program includes adventures/outings, youth/adult sports and adaptive cycling. It also has a fitness center that provides group exercise classes for both people with and without disabilities.
