Alta Bates Summit was recognized as a 2003 Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence by HealthGrades, one of less than 3 percent of the nation s hospitals to achieve that distinction.Alta Bates Summit Medical Center offers comprehensive services designed to meet the health care needs of the diverse communities of the greater East Bay Area, in Berkly, Calif. It is a community based and nonprofit organization. Alta Bates Summit Medical Center was formed in 1999, merging Alta Bates,Herrick, Merritt, Peralta and Providence hospitals including nearly 100 years of work. It is JCAHO accredited and services include 24-hour emergency care, surgery, high risk obstetrics, Level III Newborn Intensive Care Nursery, acute rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, HIV/AIDs services, behavioral health, chemical dependency, physical therapy, intensive care and laboratory services.
